BRIEF INTRODUCTION

                        Rehabilitation Centre for Children with Developmental Disorders is imparting Education, Pre-Vocational skills and providing Medical Rehabilitative Services to more than 204 Intellectually Challenged Children residing in Federal Capital Territory and its suburb areas under the umbrella of Director General of Special Education. In addition to educational services the centre is also providing Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Behavior Therapy, Medicare care to the children with Intellectual Disabilities.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Assessment, diagnostic and referral services for Special Children
  2. Academic/educational and vocational training  for PWDs
  3. Pre-vocational & vocational training of Special Children
  4. Parents counseling & guidance of PWDs
  5. Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programmes and organizing medical camps in the community.

                        The institute is operating through accessible approach which consists of purpose built building, transport and information communication technology.

EDUCATION AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES

                        RCCDD is providing Education, Para Medical and Rehabilitative Services to 204 Autistic, Learning Disability and moderate category of Children with mental retardation of Federal Capital Territory and its suburb areas under the umbrella of the Directorate General of Special Education. Provision of 1.Speech Therapy 2.Occupational Therapy 3.Behavior Therapy and other related Therapies are also regular services of RCCDD.

HEALTH

                        Health Services have vital role in the Rehabilitation of PWD’s in collaboration with health organizations. The centre is helping the students of the centre however screening, identification and prevention about disabilities is being carried out with the help of relevant institutions.

 

Habilitation and Rehabilitation

SPEECH THERAPY UNIT

This centre is providing following Speech Therapy facilities to the Special Children with Speech difficulties / Speech errors under the supervision of qualified speech therapist.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY UNIT

RCCDD is Providing Occupational Therapy facilities to the children of the centre to develop and improve their fine motors to improve their working ability in age group (5-12) years under the supervision of Occupational Therapist.

Detail of Occupational Therapy Services are as under:-

  • Assessment through reliable testing instruments, batteries, scales.
  • Development of fine motor skills / treatment and training by using latest technique of Occupational Therapy.
  • Visual motor habilitation and re-habilitation
  • Recreational programmes & plans for social adjustment.

MUSIC THERAPY UNIT

Music Therapy is a regular feature for children with developmental disorders. Singing songs can increase the ability to learn and memories. Music therapy can address a number of sensory needs for children and adults with special needs as it provides concrete multi-sensor stimulation (auditory, visual and tactile) the rhythm component of music can assist in cognitive organization of sensory systems for those individuals diagnosed with autism Music Therapy Sessions support the development of skills such as

  • Nonverbal and verbal communication
  • Self management of behavior

MEDICAL UNIT

RCCDD has a medical unit providing health services to the children with developmental disorders, medical unit is based on one doctor and one nurse providing following services to the children of RCCDD

  3. Assessment and diagnosis of nutritional deficiencies in disabled children and treatment accordingly
  4. Periodic Assessments
  5. Daily hygiene checkup and OPD services

  7. Parents Counseling regarding genetics
  8. Prognosis of disability
  9. Provision of advisory services

SPORTS AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Sports and Recreational activities are salient components of rehabilitative programs, these services benefits the children with developmental disorders in the following developmental areas:
