BRIEF INTRODUCTION

    • Al-Maktoom National Special Education Centre for Visually Impaired Children is functioning in purpose built building at plot size of 3.8 Acres at St.11, G-7/2 Islamabad. Initially education provision was up to primary level to secondary level in 2006.

RIGHT BASED SERVICES (UNCRDP)

ACCESSIBILITY

The building of the center is accessible for the visually impaired persons. The center is also providing online classes to its students during COVID-19 closure of the center.

EDUCATION

National Special Education Centre for Visually Impaired Children, Islamabad is engaged in providing education to VI students on line and on campus classes to the more than 210 students. The recent development scheme of up-gradation is adding to the assessment and introduction to modern technologies for the persons with visual impairment.   

GUIDANCE & COUNSELING & REFERRAL SERVICES

  • Assessment of students.
  • Sessions for prevention of disability.
  • Parents counseling.
  • Integration / mainstreaming in regular education.
  • Home visits/Follow-up of enrolled students.
  • Welfare activities for the enrolled students.
  • Liaison with all line agencies & organizations for treatment and rehabilitation of students.
  • Provision/arrangement of uniform (in special cases) and Braille books

HEALTH

Provision of adequate health services is imperative for the overall rehabilitation of the VI. The Centre is providing visual assessment and assistive aids  to the students of Centre.

 OPTOMETRY CLINIC:

This Centre is providing following optometric services to the special children of the Centre under the supervision of qualified eye specialist and optometrists.
