Islamabad, June 20: Secretary, Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training, Mr. Nadeem Mahbub, paid a special visit to the ongoing summer camp titled “Dil Say Dekho” at the National Institute of Special Education (NISE), Islamabad. The summer camp, a flagship initiative by the Directorate General of Special Education (DGSE), is aimed at promoting inclusion, confidence, and skill development among children with visual impairments.

Organized during the summer break, “Dil Say Dekho” is a collaborative effort between NISE, the National Mobility & Independence Training Centre (NM&ITC), the National Special Education Centre for Visually Handicapped Children (NSEC for VHC), and the National Braille Press, Islamabad. The camp brings together 62 visually impaired children and expert resource persons to engage in a variety of educational and recreational activities tailored to their needs.

During his visit, Secretary Nadeem Mahbub was warmly welcomed by the Director General, DGSE, Captain (R) Asif Iqbal Asif, who briefed him on the camp’s objectives and the multi-disciplinary support being provided to the children. Mr. Mahbub toured the various segments of the camp and personally interacted with the participants.

The children confidently demonstrated their newly acquired skills, including independent mobility using white canes, participation in accessible indoor sports, music and instrumental performances, Braille storytelling, and computer literacy using the JAWS (Job Access With Speech) screen reader software.

The camp activities are designed to nurture independence, enhance social interaction, and unlock the creative potential of children with visual impairments. The Secretary appreciated the efforts of DGSE and its partner institutions for organizing such a meaningful and empowering initiative and emphasized the ministry.
