NHMP and NMITC Hold Awareness Session on White Cane Safety Day
Islamabad, October 15, 2026: On the occasion of International White Cane Safety Day, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP), in collaboration with the National Mobility and Independence Training Centre (NMITC), organized a special awareness session aimed at enhancing awareness and fostering a greater sense of responsibility among NHMP officers towards persons with visual impairments. The session focused on equipping officers with the knowledge and skills required to provide effective assistance to persons with visual impairments during travel, ensure their safety, and facilitate their safe and independent mobility. Participants were sensitized to the challenges faced by visually impaired individuals and were guided on appropriate measures to support them in public spaces and on roadways. The awareness session also highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration in promoting accessibility, road safety, and an inclusive environment where persons with visual impairments can travel with confidence, dignity, and independence. The initiative reflects the shared commitment of NHMP and NMITC to creating a safer and more accessible society for all.
