Children with Disabilities Showcase Talent at National Independence Day Celebrations
ISLAMABAD, August 14, 2025 — The Directorate General of Special Education (DGSE), Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (M/o FE&PT), marked Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day with patriotic fervor, highlighting the talents of children with disabilities through a series of inclusive activities. The celebrations began with a dignified flag-hoisting ceremony at the National Centre for Physically Challenged Students, followed by a vibrant cultural programme at the National Institute of Special Education (NISE), H-8/4, Islamabad. The event, themed “Atfaal-e-Baham Mazoori Ka Roshan, Jaam-e-Rasai Ke Saath Mazboot Aur Mehakta Pakistan”, symbolized the unity, resilience, and patriotism of children with disabilities. Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training, Mrs. Wajiha Qamar, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while DGSE Director General Capt. (R) Asif Iqbal Asif welcomed dignitaries on behalf of Federal Secretary Mr. Nadeem Mahbub. In his address, the DG highlighted recent initiatives of the ministry, including renovation of physiotherapy and cerebral palsy units, restoration of the orthopaedic workshop at the National Centre for Physically Challenged Students, and the establishment of four sensory rooms at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children with Developmental Disorders — aligning special education services with international best practices. The programme featured the National Anthem in Pakistan Sign Language, Quranic recitation, and Naat by visually impaired students. A thematic tableau titled “Bunyan-um-Marsoos” by students with developmental disorders, a motivational speech by Misbah Irshad (wheelchair user from NSEC-PHC), and an instrumental music performance by visually impaired child Fawad Alam were among the highlights. Fawad had been honoured a day earlier by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif for his achievements. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest lauded the ministry’s commitment to inclusive education and praised the talent and patriotic spirit of participating students. Before the ceremony, the Director General (SE), alongwith students with disabilities, hoisted the national flag at Al-farabi National Special Education Centre for Physically Handicapped Children. On this occasion, a pledge was made with the special students for the country’s development, security, and prosperity. The event concluded with the distribution of trophies to winners of the DGSE Azadi Sports Gala and certificates to position holders of FBISE matric exams from special education centres. A cake-cutting ceremony led by Mrs. Wajiha Qamar with children marked the culmination of Jashan-e-Azadi celebrations, honouring the spirit of Marka-e-Haq.
