MoFEPT Strengthens Inclusive Education through Sports

ISLAMABAD, Thursday, 17 September 2026: The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT), through the Directorate General of Special Education (DGSE) and National Institute of Special Education (NISE), is strengthening inclusive education by promoting meaningful participation, youth leadership and inclusion through sports.
Advancing this vision, NISE, in collaboration with Special Olympics Pakistan (SOP), organized a one day Inclusive Educators’ Learning & Exchange under the Unified Champion Schools Programme at NISE, Islamabad. A diverse cohort of 65 participants, representing mainstream and special education institutions, brought together educators, multidisciplinary professionals and students with intellectual and developmental disabilities on a shared platform, reinforcing the Ministry’s commitment to translating inclusion from policy into practice.
A defining feature of the workshop was its student led collaborative learning model. Students assumed leading roles in group activities, supported by teachers and members of multidisciplinary professional teams. This approach placed students at the heart of the learning process, not merely as beneficiaries of inclusion, but as active partners and emerging leaders.
A special highlight of the day was the presence of Fawad Alam, a student of DGSE, MoFEPT, as Guest of Honour. Celebrated as one of the Pakistan’s inspiring young talents, Fawad secured the first ever Pakistan Got Talent trophy 2026 on 12 September. His recognition at the workshop drew a standing ovation from the entire hall, celebrating the abilities, achievements and potential of children with disabilities.
Accessibility remained integral to the programme, with the entire event made accessible to the Deaf community through live Pakistan Sign Language (PSL) interpretation, ensuring that inclusion was not merely discussed, but embedded in the conduct of the event itself.
The programme featured interactive sessions on Inclusive Educator Leadership, the Social Model of Disability, Universal Design for Learning, case studies, group activities and reflections, facilitated by resource persons from Special Olympics Pakistan.
At the concluding ceremony, Mrs. Asna Aziz, Director Administration & Coordination, DGSE, distributed certificates among the participants, joined by Deputy Director Incharge NISE and Programme Lead officers from Special Olympic Pakistan SOP.

The initiative demonstrated how collaboration between mainstream and special education, coupled with sports, accessible communication and student leadership, can create meaningful pathways towards inclusion. Through such initiatives, MoFEPT continues to strengthen the interface between special and mainstream education, advancing an education system where participation, dignity and opportunity are accessible to every learner.
