ABOUT THE CENTRE

National Library & Resource Center was established in 1986 and shifted in the purpose built building for PWDs in 2005 and since then it is rendering services to PWDs, special students, their parents and their teaching staff. It is easily accessible for PWDs since it has a ramp for wheelchair bound persons and an elevator (lift) to carry Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) onto 1st  and 2nd floors. The library provides an inclusive environment of reading both for PWDs and general readers.

FACILITIES AND SERVICES

  • Book collection, about 20,000 on special education, disabilities, rehabilitation, medical science, language and literature, psychology etc.

  • Accessible building for PWDs.

  • Free membership for the PWDs.

  • Free Pick and drop facility is provided to PWDS on demand.

  • A collection of Audio Books and CDs on different topics are available.

  • Print/ text enlargement and reading services on close circuit TVs for Partially Sighted or Low Visionary. Latest Assistive Devices available for Persons with Visually Impairment/Partially Sighted under the project ofup-gradation of NSEC for VHC.

  • A collection of Braille books on all different is available.

  • Documentaries, Audios/Talking Books, cartoons and songs, Videos on disabilities, games etc.

  • Diverse collection of E-books in PDF.

   Is it a special or public library?

As per its mandate it is a special library catering to the information and special education needs of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). However, it also serves the public at large including students of schools, colleges, universities, students doing research (M.Phil/ Ph.D) in the field of special education, disabilities and rehabilitation, CSS candidates, newspaper readers etc. to maintain an environment of inclusion.

 

Does this library have an accessible building?

Yes, it has a purpose built building having ramps, parallel bars, and an elevator (lift) for access of PWDs to 1st& 2nd floor.

 

Does it have assistive technologies for PWDs?

Yes, the latest digital assistive devices like Portable Digital Magnifier, Explorer 8 ,Zoomax ,Braille Embosser/ Printer, 3D Printer, Merlin Elite Pro, Computer Lab with JAWS and DTS Mobile are available for the blind and partially sighted persons.

 

Is borrowing of books allowed?

No, it is a reference library. The books are not issued to the readers. However, the facility of photocopying and scanning of required material is provided to the readers.

 

What is the criterion for membership of library?

The membership is offered free of cost to the PWDs and general public after clarification of identity, filling up of membership form and providing requisite information.
