BRIEF INTRODUCTION

  • Established in 1982 as Rehabilitation Centre for Deff (RCD) in a rented building at F-8/1 Islamabad (as first of its kind under the Federal Government).
  • Shifted to the purpose built building in 1990
  • Secondary School started in 1993
  • First S.S.C batch passed out in 1996.
  • Higher Secondary School started in 2001.
  • Affiliated with FBISE for SSC in 2005, and for HSSC since 2006 with modified syllabus.
  • Affiliated with Punjab University for Degree Classes in 2017.
  • First batch of Degree Classes passed out in 2019.

The institute is operating through accessible approach which consist of purpose built building, transport and information communication technology.

EDUCATION

National Special Education Centre for Hearing Impaired Children, Islamabad is engaged in imparting education and para medical services to more than 680 hearing impaired children of federal capital territory and its skirt areas under the umbrella of the Directorate General of Special Education. In addition to the education services, the Centre provides speech therapy and Audiological services for indoor and outdoor patients.

Department of education provides educational services from pre-Nursery to degree level for hearing impaired children in the Federal capital territory areas.

GUIDANCE & COUNSELING & REFERRAL SERVICES

  • Sessions for prevention of disability.
  • Parents counseling.
  • Integration / mainstreaming in regular education.
  • Home visits/Follow-up of enrolled students.
  • Welfare activities for the enrolled students.
  • Liaison with all line agencies & organizations for treatment and rehabilitation of students.

HEALTH

Provision of adequate health services is imperative for the overall rehabilitation of HICs. The Centre is providing health services to the students of Centre in collaboration with health organizations.

HABILITATION and REHABLITATION

SPEECH THERAPY UNIT:  

This Centre is providing following speech therapy facilities to the special children of the Centre under the supervision of qualified speech therapist.

 AUDIOLOGICAL UNIT:

The centre is providing audiological assessment facilities to special students (both indoor and outdoor), and following tests are available:

  1. Pure tone audiometry
  2. Tympanometry.
  3. BERA (Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry).
  4. Otoacoustic Emission (OAE)

PARTICIPATION IN CULTURAL LIFE, RECREATION, LEISURE AND SPORTS

Programs are organized along with training for following activities: -
